As of April 2021, I am the lifestyle editor at The Spruce, Spruce Crafts, and Spruce Pets.
Before joining The Spruce, I was the SEO editor at Real Simple. In that role, I optimized new and existing content to better reach search engine users. I performed keyword research and referred to traffic analytics to determine which existing pieces of content could be better optimized. I also worked with our SEO manager to identify areas of consolidation and topics where we could create new content to fulfill a search need. I worked with freelancers and other staff editors to assign, create, edit, and produce new content that was both optimized for search and genuinely helpful to our readers: Service first, always.
Prior to becoming SEO editor at Real Simple, I was an associate digital editor and an assistant editor at the brand. As an associate digital editor, I wrote and edited digital content covering lifestyle products, national events, charitable opportunities, and topics related to the home, cleaning, and organizing. In my role as assistant editor, I assisted the editor-in-chief and other senior editors with administrative and research tasks, fulfilled office manager responsibilities, and wrote and produced a variety of original content for print and for digital.
Before joining the Real Simple team, I was an assistant editor at Coastal Living, based out of Time Inc.'s (now Meredith's) offices in Birmingham, Alabama. As a member of the small and dynamic editorial team, I produced digital and print content. My digital content covered news related to the coast, coastal and national real estate, health, travel, food, and general lifestyle topics.
I joined Coastal Living as an editorial fellow in Time Inc.'s post-graduate fellowship, a year-long program for recent college graduates, in June 2016. In October 2016, I was offered a permanent editorial assistant position.
I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Elon University May 2016. As a student, I was managing editor of Magazine Pacemaker-nominated Colonnades Literary & Arts Journal; an editorial intern with the Four Seasons Magazine's print and digital teams; and Opinions Editor—after several other roles throughout my college career—with The Pendulum, now Elon News Network. I was also a member of Elon's Honors Fellows program, through which I completed a senior thesis, Beautiful, Uneducated, and Unequal: Feminist Concerns and Female Representation in Twentieth Century Young Adult Literature. During my summers, I interned with Good Housekeeping, The Four Seasons Magazine, and Gallopade International.
